located just northeast of Mysen in Indre Østfold municipality, is an impressive fortress.
Høytorp fort was built in the period 1912-1918 and was the main fort in the Fossum district's fortress.
Together with Trøgstad fort and the bridge galleries at Glomma, it was supposed to protect against attacks from the north, south and east.
The first contingent of recruits arrived at Høytorp Fort on 10 August 1915. During the battles against German forces in April 1940, the fort played an important role.
The fort was decommissioned as a military facility in 1994, but it is now protected by the National Archives and handed over to Eidsberg municipality in 2003.
Three out of four turret guns have been returned to the fort. A 12 cm Schneider turret cannon is functional and is fired at special events.
In the summer, you can take part in guided tours where you are guided through exciting passages, tower cannons and experience great views from the top of the mountain complex.
Annual events include Spring Days, Fortress Day, Pre-Christmas Days and meets for military historic vehicles.
Høytorp fort is now a much-used outdoor area for the population of Mysen, with hiking trails, light trails in winter and various events.
Høytorp fort is part of Fossumstrøket's fortress and is located northeast of Mysen in Indre Østfold municipality. The fort was built in the period 1912-1918 and was the largest and most powerful inland fortress at the time. Together with Trøgstad fort and the bridge galleries at Glomma, it was supposed to stop attacks from the north, south and east. Høytorp fort was also the seat of the fortress command. During the Second World War, the fort was in battle with German troops in the days of April 1940. After the war, the fort was, among other things, headquarters for the Transport Regiment and the Home Guard. The fort was closed down as a military facility in 2001 and the entire area is today taken over by the municipality. Høytorp Fort is designated by antiquarian authorities as a national fortification on the same lines as Akershus Fortress in Oslo and Fredriksten Fortress in Halden.
