About us

The association for Høytorp fort was founded on 4 November 1996, and today has approx. 80 members. The reason why the association was founded was the desire to preserve Høytorp fast for posterity. The association has carried out - and is carrying out - a great deal of voluntary work. Restoration work in the fort, the development of a small fortress museum, restoration of cannons, return of three of a total of four tower cannons, conducting tours and visits to the National Archives and the Defense Museum. We are a member of the Hjemmefrontmuseet in Rakkestad and Reiseliv Indre Østfold.

The association's main purpose

  1. Restoration of the historic defense facility, including projects such as;
  2. Return of tower guns to Høytorp fort
  3. Preparation of an Information Center about the Glomma Line, with exhibitions and return of parts of the mountain complex
  4. Reconstruction of the removed entrance tower into the moat
  5. Reconstruction of the Dekningsvollen and rehabilitation of the Howitzer battery
  6. Document and publicize the history of the entire Fossum region's fortress
  7. Market the facility with;
  8. Open mountain facility / guided tour
  9. Fortress Day
  10. Summer and pre-Christmas days
  11. As a cultural beacon in the Region
  12. Tourism-based marketing and development
  13. Arrange for and be responsible for the implementation of tours at Høytorp fort
  14. Be a driving force for the facility to be safeguarded as a national cultural monument, in collaboration with Indre Østfold municipality, the County Conservator, the National Antiquities Museum, the Defense Museum and local actors.
